Determining The Cost Of A Saree

The price of a saree varies based on the quality of materials used to weave and also the labour put up by the craftsmen. It purely depends on what standard of marriage saree you wish to purchase. The cost of an Indian wedding saree is determined by many features.

  • Fabric- The fabric used to create the 9-yard ensemble plays an important role in deciding the cost of a wedding saree. Different types of fabrics namely silk, georgette, cotton, chiffon, organza, tissue, lycra, crepe, velvet, satin, brocade, muslin, cotton-silk blended materials are used in creating different types of sarees. Of all these silks are the most preferred one when it comes to traditional events like weddings. It is an extremely beautiful, fine and delicate material and is used for making all kinds of sarees. One of the costliest fabrics, silk has an unparalleled luxurious charm. In a class of its own, this extremely sought-after fabric is highly approved for Indian wedding ceremonies. Though expensive, good quality silk sarees are unique with regard to looks, draping, pleating and comfort.
  • Embellishments- Various types of decorative details are added to the fabric to make the wedding saree more attractive. To make the ancient garment more beautiful embroidery work, precious and semiprecious stone work, zari work( this includes both gold as well as silver thread work) etc. are done by the artisans. The zari is woven throughout the saree by the craftsmen, though it is mostly seen on borders and pallu. More the ornamentation, more will be the cost of the wedding attire. If the saree has plenty of hand-stitched decoration the price will be higher. The quality and quantity of embroidery work on a saree is another feature which increases the cost.
  • Time- The quantity of time required by the weavers as well as the artisans to complete one single wedding saree influences the cost. If the weaving style is complicated and more embellishments are added consequently more amount of time will be needed. Hence if the time taken is long the price will automatically be on the higher side.
  • Brand name- The brand name often increases the cost of an Indian wedding saree.
